This song is an original, obviously, and it's about my fears and paranoia related to performing. Lyrics below:
holy manhattan
verse one
the spotlight don't look that bright
from where i sit
that shaky stage is quite the sight
i wonder if i'll fit
but as the clock counts down
and it's comin round to that time
suddenly these tables make their own little town
a lyric where i don't rhyme
pre-chorus
will they cheer more for me, or more for him?
the water looks like oil--will i sink or swim?
chorus
holy manhattan
how my heart seems to flatten
though my hands do receive this rain
my eyes don't believe this pain
love gets lost amongst all the chit-chattin'
oh holy manhattan
verse two
now they say my name and oh, what a shame
i'm the only one who knows it
i still haven't read the rulebook for this game
and my face sure as hell shows it
pre-chorus two
well my fear may be slightly absurd
but now i find myself forgetting the very first word
chorus two
holy manhattan
how my heart seems to flatten
no one seems to notice as it fries
they only see what's behind their eyes
it's hard enough to speak the truth with all the lies my brain is spattin'
holy manhattan
bridge
sometimes i feel like i see everything
cause i'm the one who one one's watching
so i'll surrender to the song
are you with me or not
come on take the wheel, show 'em what you got
chorus three
holy manhattan
that brick wall just turned to satin
sometimes i let go of the needle and thread
but i'll always find the need to pick it up again
i'll step up to the ring and throw my hat in
holy manhattan
@Illgrove thanks so much! i don't get comments like that very often so I really appreciate it!

I've been waiting to hear this song since you posted the lyrics on facebook. Nice. I think I have another favorite song by you. ("If I was in Love With You" being my first.)
