I decided it was time to post something different up here for the YouTube community, so one afternoon I found myself climb up onto a binlifter, jump into a hopper, scramble past a double paddle and enter the body of a garbage truck. Getting out was a bitch of a situation... had to crawl over of the greens and squeeze myself through the aperture to get back in the hopper, but eventually I emerged covered in grass and smelling like organics!

I won't say where, but I was within a MacDonald Johnston side loader which was being used on a green-waste run. The footage is a little rough / shaky at times with me trying to maintain a stable position and experimenting with shots to get the best angle possible. The very start was good when the truck was empty with a clear view of the loading and packer, but once more bins were emptied the shot became a little obscured - you'll see me raking the material back with my hand and eventually even climbing on top of the contents to reach the action.

It was a very interesting experience taking a video from this spot, very dark inside the body with little light from the outside. The truck was also an Acco, but you may notice the engine sounded a whole lot different. I was waiting for a bin full of water to splash down or for a snake to join me in the back :P I'm planning to get a more organised video in the future to upload on another occasion... want to capture the best possible action from the interior, including shots where I point the camera up at the bin as the contents fall out. Until then, I bring you some special action from inside the body of a garbage truck...

***Disclaimer***
Please note that the driver of the collection vehicle was knowledgeable about my presence in the back of the truck, risks associated with this were addressed and an escape plan was organised. Entering the body of a garbage truck is an act which an individual should NOT perform under any circumstances, especially without driver knowledge, as this may result in possible injury or death. Only authorised personnel are allowed to enter the body in emergencies or to carry out work related tasks.

  • Do it with real garbage next time please? Ill go in the back to film it if you like? :D

  • @plasticwrappable Yeh I'm planning to, just gotta find the opportunity.

  • hmm.. so thats how it looks like in there lol. not as i expected. i expected it to look like such in horror movie :p

i would be scared to death by the thought of how much spiders it might be in that green waste if i was you lol.

  • @Raave Yeh I was thinking about spiders, but I was pretty well covered up... not that that's going to stop them.

  • Just have to ask mitch. how far would this driver go with the collecting if you havent got him to stop and you come out?

  • @Stuntshow17 He actually stopped and rung me to see how things were going, but we agreed to do a certain amount of bins until we pulled the plug.

  • @laserkeyboard oh&s laws are all horse shit anyway. take the fun out of everything!

  • This is one of the best movies on yt, no one else has done this from inside a side loader while its picking up bins. Great work Mitch and I can't wait to see some more of this type of footage. The double paddle went really well, the packer swept the hopper clean just in time for another bin and thats how the cycle went for the whole time. The body really doesn't seem as big on the inside as it does on the outside.

  • Dayummmmm :D :D Amazing how different the engine sounded!!! Something like a CNG truck here would NORMALLY sound! That was pretty phenomenal. I have to say it looks a lot less risky than I originally had thought, reading your post a while back on flickr. The only thing was the parts when you go real close to the packer....head easily could've gotten in between it and the body right there and that'd be it.

Otherwise when you do this again, just do like you did and consider the risks beforehand ;)

  • @MitchellM15 No probs dude, let us know if you need a hand filming :)

  • Wow, that looks fun!

  • @MitchellM15 lol. very true that. they get through everything, lol.

  • @MitchellM15 ohh awesome. yeah thats a nice and safe setup :) really hoping to see more in the future. even with RL garbage :D great work! *cheers*
