The theme for Cornell's first annual TEDx was "Rethinking Our Society". In my talk, I proposed that utilizing open-source models would allow us all to benefit from increased collaboration.

My Bio from the TEDx Program:
Jeremy is a undergraduate senior majoring in Electrical and Computer Engineering at Cornell. In addition to taking classes, Jeremy leads Cornell University Sustainable Design (a 150 person interdisciplinary design-build team) and does research in the Creative Machines Lab. He's constantly developing new open source projects, and has released nearly a hundred video tutorials that aim to teach people about electronics and engineering. He maintains a video series and blog sponsored by element14 electronics, and is presently employed by Makerbot Industries, designing open source electronics for their personal 3D printers.

What is TED?
TED is a nonprofit that began in 1984 as an annual conference devoted to Technology, Entertainment and Design. TEDTalks now covers science, arts, politics, global issues, architecture, music and more under their umbrella. At the heart of it's philosophy is the tenet of bringing people together to share "Ideas Worth Spreading".

What is TEDx?
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TED has created a program called TEDx. TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience.

  • @sciguy14 really awesom job man! *BOWS*

a lot of people are intrested in embedded linux and the Beagleboard and Beaglebone platform but they get pissed off seeing the toughness and things and they leave the platform!

can u put som tuts for it so that a ton of people can be helped too???

  • @MrLolztome1 I'm planning to get a hold of a beaglebone soon so I can experiment. I've actually never used it, myself.

  • When are you going to make more videos

  • @powerwingman very soon, since my finals are almost over.

  • I'd just like to interject for a moment, what you're referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.

  • @boabie Yes, but describing that in layman's terms can be difficult, and most people have already heard of linux, so I simply refer to it as linux when I'm talking to a not-all-technical crowd.

  • Watching this makes me feel so unsuccessful.

  • @downscreen129103 I actually really enjoy public speaking. It's always a little nerve-wracking leading up to it, but I'm usually comfortable once I'm on stage.

  • wow man well done! great to see a lad still at it after a couple of years, i remember coming across your vids years ago to find the correct way to apply thermal paste! all the best for 2012 an keep up the good work

  • Great job Jeremy!

  • You r surely selfish (aftr seeing this) but dont worry we r even more selfish !!! Keep moving way to go up the ladder !!!!

  • You should make a led cube video

  • Just messing with you bro. That text/meme stems from Richard Stallman's crusade on getting recognition for his earlier work. Would be nice to get his thoughts on your presentation for that matter as he was the precursor to much of what you discussed. IIRC though he's against youtube :/

    Anyway, good work.
