Jackies' version of the ultra classic best known by the Darrell Banks hit.
Note:
Penned by Donnie Elbert, who "chose not to record his own composition, "Baby Walk Right In," but instead he gave it to fellow Buffalo singer Darrell Banks, who sped up the tempo, retitled it "Open the Door to Your Heart" and recorded it in Detroit. Not only was the end result a Top 40 pop hit, but Elbert was not credited as its composer, a legal mess that took years to sort out and still ended with Banks receiving 50% of all royalties." • Darrell sang background for Jackie Wilson.

  • @chakafan2 Really? I wasn't aware that Jackie Wilson ever had backing singers.

  • Darrell Banks has the best version of this song.

  • @DetroitLives313 I agree, but i posted this because its not well known. I didn't intend to enter a competition! Hope you enjoyed it anyway.

  • I've seen the 45 Volvo (0:41) in Manchester UK a few times. Top spin - thanks for posting.

  • he the best northern soul singer EVER!!

  • I was totally unaware of this version from Jackie Wilson, thanks for making it available. My personal favorite however, is the Darrell Banks version. Is it possible that this is one of the hits that the Funk Bros. moonlighted on in 1966? It sure sounds like them.

  • An absolute CLASSIC!

  • One amazing guy!

  • Can’t stop listening to Jackie… what versatility, what style, what a voice. He was truly a gifted singer. I wonder if we shall ever see another like him.

  • @olemanjohn68

    ou didn't do bad

  • @jwcartlidge Hank Cosby on sax, Joe Hunter, Pistol Allen, Eddie "Bong" Brown and James Jamerson all "moonlighted" on John Lee Hooker's "Boom Boom" released in 1962 on Vee-Jay, a Chicago label. Bongo and Jamerson also played on Jackie Wilson's 1967 comeback hit (Your Love Keeps Lifting Me) Higher And Higher on Brunswick. I would suggest therefore that there is a good possibility that they, or other Funk Brothers played on this or other Chicago records, having established a working relationship.
