A slideshow of photos taken of my Tiki Mug Collection. Bottoms up!

Tiki mugs are ceramic drinkware originating in mid-century American tiki bars and tropical themed restaurants. Tiki mugs often feature a figure, face or "tropical" decoration imposed upon its front. Traditional drinks served in tiki mugs are rum-based, mixed with tropical fruit juices and garnished with fruit and a paper umbrella.

  • Yippie!!! I'm the first! Hey Lizzy: are these mugs YOUR actual collection?! Very exotic and beautiful - and at times a bit reminiscent of Dorothy Lamour!! LOL. I love the 'bar' atmosphere: so cool and cozy. Reminds me of my favorite rum concoction, (Rum Swizzle??), during my vacations in Bermuda. And ... you forgot to mention the music: "Quiet Village". (Martin Denny had the original hit back in the late 50s). Will write soon!!! Franny :)

  • Hi Franny, yes indeed, these are all MY tiki mugs! I took the opportunity, on a rare day when we had sunshine, to photograph them all with my records and other tiki/exotica things as props and backdrops. And of course you're right, the music's 'Quiet Village', this time by Les Baxter... another one of my exotica music favourites... along with Denny of course. Glad you liked it! All this is making me thirsty, I think I'll make myself a Blue Hawaii now :) Talk soon, Lx
