  • I have tremendous respect for Dr Lacewell---and yes she is gorgeous

  • How these women viewed white women is how society views white women. That is rather interesting.

  • @JHaines57 It would be naive to believe white people do not consider race (not to mention demonstrably false). You can observe our current debates around Obama to prove race matters and yes that racism is alive and doing quite well. Regarding identity of mixed race individuals like Professor Perry or the President, I think the main reason for our (I'm African American) concern is that white America is selective in their embrace of Black Americans. Sure they can be "mixed" rather than Black whe

  • @mobileaarmy Except that it's not normally the white people who are considering a 1/4 black person to be "black", in the present. If you to say "she's mixed" or "she's white", the vast majority of the people arguing with you, angrily, will be black. Which I find ironic.

You're right that the one drop rule benefited slave owners; another reason for us to leave it behind. I find it strange it's mostly black people trying to hang on to it, while the white people don't usually care about race.

  • @JHaines57 society, regardless of the ethnic background of the President, is still controlled by white people. We have to pay attention to the notion nowadays because it still matters, because we still live in a society where race plays a role in social life. The reason, nowadays, if you're even 1/4 black you're still considered black goes back to the logic of slave society, when white men would impregnate black women, which most slave owners did, like Jefferson. more slaves that way

  • @mobileaarmy But the "one drop rule" was just a contrived notion of the slaves days when white supremacy was taken as a given and anyone with "one drop" of non-white blood "contaminated" them! Why would we even pay attention to such a stupid notion in these days?

While it's possible she could be half-black, it's more probable she's somewhere closer to 25%-35% black. Keep in mind most of those in the USA considered to be "full black" are more like 70%-75% black, going by genetics.

  • @JHaines57 one drop rule bro..shes probably about half black

  • She can't really be part of that "handful".

If a person were as black as she is white, no one would even call that person "mixed"; they would just call her "black".

This woman clearly has a little black in her, but it's a minor part.

I find it amusing all these scholars for black studies and black causes are either pretty much 50/50 mixed or are actually mostly white. None of them I know of are convincingly "black"! LOL!

  • Wow! A real woman. Dr. Sexy is her name.
