The movie is technically superior to the mini-series, and taken by itself, it's a masterpiece of horror cinema.
As a Stephen King adaptation however, it is horribly inaccurate to the novel's themes, its characters, and its ending is completely changed, promting Stephen King to disavow it completely.
If you're a fan of horror movies, you'll love it.
If you're a Stephen King fan, probably not.
If you're both, then you'll take both for what they are.
