One of Stephen King's and Stanley Kubrick's masterpieces, and Jack Nicholson's role of a lifetime - couldn't picture anyone else playing Jack Torrance the way he did.

your description is contrary to the fact that stephen king was forever displeased with kubrick for not staying true to the litterature.
but ut's still good anyways though. ^^

The movie is technically superior to the mini-series, and taken by itself, it's a masterpiece of horror cinema.
As a Stephen King adaptation however, it is horribly inaccurate to the novel's themes, its characters, and its ending is completely changed, promting Stephen King to disavow it completely.
If you're a fan of horror movies, you'll love it.
If you're a Stephen King fan, probably not.
If you're both, then you'll take both for what they are.
