Religion exerts such force in the areas shown here that it cannot be separated from culture. The two unite in societal beliefs and superstitions over the centuries, but religion fails to stop these barbarisms. Modern humans have discarded religion along with other cultural superstitions and misconceptions. If any god exists it either permits evil to occur or is too weak to prevent evil, and so it is unworthy of worship. Those societies most civilized are those least poisoned by religion.

I don't understand why everyone is bringing religion into this? All of this is cultural practise. The girls being burnt is all the faults of the families and husbands, why is islam being singled out here?

Mohammed (saw) yes may have married a 9 year old, but who are you to judge? At that era marriages like that were very well conducted. The 9 year olds at that point were at the maturity level of a 15 year old perhaps in this era. And when prophet pbuh passed away she was at a conscious mature
