Mary Klyachenko, 16 is my voice and piano student.
Yes, I didnt do any mistakes; she is 16 and sounds like an opera prima-donna.
We learn the opera techniques with my students, but I allow them to sing some popular music using the opera technique and check if they dont slide on vocal chords.
Many people dont realize how difficult to sing a song like this with the round opera vowels and a diaphragm
This is ONLY one the opera style performing of So in LOVE on youtube. And Mary is only one who does the high-A-note in the ening.
And I can tell we put tons of work doing this song. My work as a piano player (accompaniment) and Marys part of singing, to coordinate and co-exist together and be in rhythm and a beat and sound good. Mary was very patient singing this song over and over for a thousand times and finally get this recording.
I am proud of you Mary and hope you will be a next American Idol. You deserve it!

"Kiss Me, Kate" is a musical with music and lyrics by Cole Porter. It is structured as a play within a play, where the interior play is a musical version of William Shakespeare's, The Taming of the Shrew.

Kiss Me, Kate was a comeback and a personal triumph for Cole Porter. After several successful musicals in the 1920's and 1930s, notably Gay Divorce, Fifty Million Frenchmen, and Anything Goes, he experienced an equestrian accident in 1937 that left him in constant pain. Following the accident, he continued to write songs and musicals but with limited success, such as Mexican Hayride, Let's Face It!, and Something for the Boys, and some thought he was past his prime. Kiss Me, Kate was a response to Rodgers and Hammerstein's Oklahoma! and other integrated musicals, and it proved to be his biggest hit and the only one of his shows to run for more than 1,000 performances on Broadway.[1] It won the first Tony Award presented for Best Musical, in 1949.

  • I can hardly wait to hear Mary sing "Porgi Amor"! This beautiful aria will definitely suit her clear, effortless voice superbly. Like I already mentioned somewhere, she would probably sing "Ach, ich fühl's" very well too. Hope to hear her perform it one day!

    Regards, Dita

  • Ok, after Porgi Amor, we will do the Pamina's aria in German,

    Thanks,

    L

  • She sounds very professional... must have taken her years to learn this song and sing it soo well. and her voice does not sound swallowed or far back... on the contrary, she has a very beautiful and light opera voice.

  • Thank you very much. Maybe be you will not belive but Mary takes voice lessons only for a year. And we worked on this song during three lessons...... We are working on Porgi Amor, Mozart now, this will be our next youtube video. Please, subsicribe and see,

Mary's teacher Lubov Laura De Valois

  • ELenlove, I completely disagree with you... On the contrary, her pronunciation is remarkable... It sounds very round and when singing opera, that is the way it supposed to be. Also, the other "opera singers" that sing this song don't really sing it in opera.... they mix in a little broadway and other styles...

  • Thank you, as I mentioned we work on Porgi Amor, Mozart now, and our Italian will be different than English, because the Italian language is original and very suitable for opera,

  • you are a teacher, and that is that other persons opinion. you are also an adult and i respectfully ask that u respect that persons opinion whether it be based on fact or if it is just rude you can still be mature. Thank you.

  • I understand that you were aiming for an operatic sound with round vowels, but this is a musical theatre song, therefore even when you convert it to opera, the words should still be understandable. Beautiful voice though. Also, try singing with emotion. She just stares at the camera.

  • While her tone is nice and clear, she needs to learn how to pronounce these words! There were very strange vowels being used. Strange had an "aw" vowel instead of an "a" sound. There were many moments like this and it makes it really hard to understand what the words are. Words and diction are just as important techniques as tone.

  • She needs to learn English. Some of her diction isn't correct. Let me know if you'd like me to help you.

  • lovely.

  • if you teach opera technique, why on earth is she singing with a microphone to a CAMERA in a LIVING ROOM??! surely, projection in a such a small space is not so hard to achieve (and especially with a camera that has its own microphone)?

also you mention "round opera vowels". only problem is that was ALL i heard. where are the consonants? i could not understand a single word she sung. she has a pretty voice that needs ALOT more training to be what did you call her? "opera prima donna"?

  • She has a nice voice but she has no emotion. Her face is blank. Her voice is not loud enough even with the mic. She's sounds like she is humming her way through this song.

  • @BelCantoV Mary you have such buitifull voice!!!Amazing!!!!Gorgeus!!!

  • Hi, just to say, she has a lovely voice, but please stick to other languages or work on the pronunciation of the English language, as if I didn't know the words to the song already I would find it difficult to understand what she is singing.

  • Beautiful voice. A little heavy on reverb though.

Geez people, she's 16, not a pro yet.

  • Diction? Whether it's opera or musical theatre still the same principal...It just seems like your student is standing there just singing the song. You need to CONNECT to the song. She has potential but more performance work needed.

  • beautiful voice, and definately in training but still beautiful. definately needs more emotion
