  • I have shot and killed several deer with a 30-30. With a good shot they run no more than a few yards.Bow hunting though Ive shot several deer and couldnt find them.I put on a tracker string and havent lost a deer since.

  • A .30-30 is more powerful than a .357 with 100% certainty. No way a .357 is going to push a 150gr bullet to 2400fps. And there are hot 180gr .44mag rifle loads that, with a 150yd zero, will put it 2" high at 100 yards and 5" low at 200 yards.

  • pistol cartridges** not pistol calibers. cheers

  • @?? 1st off.. the 30-30 is one of the most popular deer hunting cartriges of all time in the US. 2nd, if anything, the 30-30- is overpowered, NOT underpowered. the case is too long, and the bullet is too small to fit into indiana's small window of calibers. the reason this window exists is to eliminate high velocity, long trajectory rounds from killing someone else after you miss your deer. 357 and up, and between 1.16 and 1.625 inches. pretty much narrowing it down to pistol calibers.

  • @atlucas1 I've seen a 30-30 used effectivly on Moose, the largest of the large Deer. If the target is within the 200 yard mark, have no worries. Even further on lighter targets, I would be comfortable shooting deer with the 30-30.

  • @atlucas1 the 30-30 is actually a deer hunting rifle. takes down deer easily, i have on too.

  • @InAKwitmyHK91 The effective range of a 30-30 is something like 200 yds? Either way it doesn't deliver the stopping power of a .357 Magnum, the lightest load/smallest caliber you can use in Indiana. I'm pretty sure the law is that way because Indiana DNR wants dead deer, not a bunch of wounded bloody deer for the coyotes to clean up. A 30-30 is probably effective, but just too damn small for certainty.

And just to get juvenile, "WE DO TOO KNOW HOW TO SHOOT!"

  • I'm in love with my marlin 44 magnum. I killed two doe with it so far, and hope to get a buck with it.

  • @Dman40475, you don't know the half of it. I'm surrounded by liberals! Ignorance & arrogance in mass quantities is very annoying. These idiots can't even drive cars in a rational manner.

  • @TAXtheAtheist Sniff sniff, did I smell a libtard? Who where you responding too haha. If it were up to the libs we'd have to throw rocks and deer, or we couldnt hunt them at all. They'd sell hunting licenses to the deer. hahaha
