It's about pretty much what the lyrics and title imply - growing up. It's a bit Qabbalistic/Existential too, as in an interview Peter Gabriel described "building up the world out of dots". The 1rst dot is "I am" - the idea of aloneness, individuality separate. The 2nd dot is realising you are not alone ("a touch complete surprise") The 3rd dot is the lowest number of points needed to triangulate a position on a map - also 3 dimensional space. The 4rth is a square - a foundation to build on.

With a solid audio equipment, those vocal and instrumental effects and additional sounds make you feel like you're actually flipping. Now, do you remember the cocoon he was in and flipping while performing the song in ''Growing Up Live''? Makes d*mn sence! You actually feel caged in a cacoon while listening to ''Sky Blue'' when the beat starts kicking right in front of your face and the vocals create the effect of a small circular cage while that big deep bass is knocking from the outside.
