Debunking 2012 Doomsday Theories: Nibiru, Alignments & Mayan Calendar

@mrrutledge1967 I do realize that it's not that simple, but it's only a five minute video. It's not terribly difficult to do the math to calculate the gravitational forces (using measurements from scientific publications - not popular science) to check the effects of alignments. The astronomy magazine was just a nice illustration. The government does keep information from the public, but it does not censor everything. I'm not worried about 2012 and won't be unless I see some concrete evidence.

I like this video as it shows another perspective, removing the 'hysteria' & religious arguments. Nice an simple. I agree with your calendar argument & it would be pretty remarkable to create a never ending calendar! The same powers of mass hysteria are at work with 2012 theories as were with terrorism & yes, religion. As for earthquakes, they have always been happening. Nowadays, everyone knows about them via radio, t.v, the net/other telecoms. Its not anymore frequent, we're just more aware.:)

While I cannot confirm this, It seems scientist believe the earth passes through the galactic plane every 33 million years and the last time was 3 million years ago. Even if the 33 million years represents an entire cycle, it would still be 12 million years befor it happens again. At least according to scientists.

Okay thanks for the clarification. Do you know anything about the galactic plane? Above reevesAstronomy says we go through it every 13 thousand years, but another video said its every 30 million years and we just went through it 3 million years ago. Any idea on the actual time frame of this phenomena?

@reevesAstronomy I know what the precession is man.. but if you read about ancient cultures and astronomy, they talk of the entering the galactic plane every 13,000 to 26,000 yrs.. The precession is actually 25,600 and some, something like that.. round up to 26k. We dont really know how long it takes, that is fact
When does the earth (solar system) line up with the galactic plane of the milky way.
And your misrepresention of the aligment and orbits of the planets in our solar system does not lend itself to your credibility on this subject.

@Jag2012G Misrepresentation? How so?

@reevesAstronomy I highly doubt that picture of the solar system behind you is an accurate depiction of the planets of our solar system, or their orbits.

@Jag2012G It isn't remotely so. Just used it a) because it was my wall and b) it helped me explain my point.

Your wrong kid.. Yeah, we line up with the galactic center every 21Dec, but we dont align perpendicular w/ the galactic center.. In other words, the ecliptic plane is what we are approaching.. we havent experienced that since the last time this has happened.. Dont believe everything you read and hear.. It does not take 30 million years to bob up and down the galactic plain... more like 13,000 to 26,000

@incognito88n It actually takes 60 million years to go up and down, so every 30 million years it passes through the galactic plane. The 26,000 years number you mentioned is how long it takes for the Earth to complete one precession about its axis. (one "wobble" if you imagine the Earth as a spinning top)
