They can be deadly for a previous/current smoker with hidden lung problems! Do your own research and don't believe that watery eyes, a scratchy throat, and cough is all that you will experience. Red Tide harmful algal blooms harbor all sorts of bacteria and produce nasty rashes, lung infections, GI problems, and possibly cancerous growths!

Red Tide toxin exposure resulted in a lung cancer diagnosis for a woman who went to Panama City Beach on vacation. She breathed in the toxin by mouth and experienced burning down into her chest. Does this toxin cause cancer-promoting conditions in humans? OR, is it related to pesticide and fertilizer contamination of the algal colonies?
