  • Funny. This is actually sung in the 'high' key, an octave down. Saves all that transposing (if you can do it)

  • Such lines for lovers, from Alfred Lord Tennyson -

..."The firefly wakens; waken thou with me...

Now all thy heart lies open unto me -

So fold thyself, my dearest, thou, and slip

Into my bosom and be lost in me."

Robeson's cadence and bass - superb!

    Many thanks, sarastrone!

  • @LindsayCurran Thank you my dear..Kiss.

  • @LindsayCurran "Now all thy heart lies open unto me" isn't in this song

  • Sublime.

  • I was astonished to find that he sings it in the same key as Ian Bostridge [F#],

but exactly an octave lower. Some of Robeson's lower notes here are not exactly beautiful.

  • Beautiful singing of a lovely song by the great bass. Not typical fare for Robeson, yet his style is very good. No, neither the tone nor technique is perfect, but there is a rightness of expression in the singing.
