@aviewtodeath Depends on the kind of fish and how its used. Im actually looking to use a 125 gallon for an indoor pond for two Oscar fish, and that is plenty big enough.

preformed pondliners are great when you dont want your pond deep enough, or large enough to house fish year round.

You mean increase guess work. You have to dig the hole to the size of the pond and then backfill. With liner you dig the hole to what shape you want and no backfill process.

I l've built my own ponds, and now I have one preformed pond. The preformed was actually harder to install because you have to dig to the pond's shape, and if it has various depths and contours it's a pain. The advantage is burrowing animals won't destroy it, and topside predators won't rip a hole or knock a side over.

My main issue with pre-formed ponds is that they are rarely deep enough for fish to get deeper han where herons can wade. When I first tried all my fish were gone in less than a week. Had to go 4 feet deep to keep the fish safe.

They don't look deed enough to keep a heron from wading and snatching fish.
