Just dawned on me. Tom Hanks real-life wife was the hot waitress that introduced Guy to Del Paxton in the movie.

I have wondered the same thing , his last TV ( SAVED TNT approx 2005 ) project looked really good but it was cancelled after about 5 or 6 episodes. He played a med school drop out/ full time paramedic that suffers from a gambling addiction.
