  • @atomicpuppet "Soul"...that's exactly how I would describe it too. As much as I love the ease and immediacy of my digital camera- there's always going to be something more authentic and exciting about film, not knowing exactly what you have until it's floating in the developer.

What you say about digitisation closing "so many well developed theories and practises" is definitely unsettling. It seems like we need to redefine photojournalism to fit the technology...which doesn't seem right.

  • Totally agree with that last statement. The change is moving rapidly and not in the best light. Digital has opened up a new world of possibilities, but it has closed so many well developed theories and practices about what a photograph, or a photographer is, and is able to do with their work.

It seems though in the ever expanding, connected world we have today, the speed of how news flows and how people expect instant gratification, digital is the way to go for a paycheck. Film has soul though.
