  • Geez! So many critics! You guys need to lighten up! It's brilliant! Oh, crap, she smokes and has an attitude - Wow! Big f***'in' deal! How many talented jazz musicians died early from ODs - and Jaco was beat to death in an alley - good thing he played while he was here. Showboating - are you crazy? It's tasteful. She hired him, didn't she? He's doing what he does! They're great, sorry about your need to judge what you can't understand! If she wants to smoke, it's her business.

  • so what. her music is magic

  • @FOXdevelopmentSux you sir, sound mad.

  • This is fucking brilliant. I suppose I understand if you don't like the whole 1970s NY jazz sound, but I do and I think everyone here is in top form. Michael Brecker's solo breathes fire, and when Joni joins in at 3:58 on that sustained note--oh baby!

  • This was some of the tastiest Joni ever. We adore you Joni. Brilliant, innovative and kept the boys on their toes.

  • I'm on my 1000th listen - very good.

  • i liked that

  • Charles asked Joni to do these lyrics; he knew true artistry when he heard it. I wish he could have lived long enough to hear this performance! RIP, Charles!

  • i make this comment having ignored all the others.. simply because i didn't want to read them; too much bantering here on youtube about minutiae. this is live performance at just about as good as it gets- every single musician on review here on a very obviously good day. it's my opinion that it is bass playing, in particular, on showcase here (it's a mingus tune after all..) i challenge anyone to give me a better example of a live bass guitar performance that's been recorded.

  • this was a magical night for aLL

  • Joni adapted the lyrics herself.. she did a whole album of Mingus tunes with (essentially) this band, called "Mingus". "Dry Cleaner from Des Moines" will make you cream your pants, srsly. enjoy!!

  • The best examples of vocalese are ones in which they aren't treated as vocalese but as good tunes. Anyone knows who adapted lyrics for this song?
