This TAS (Tool Assisted Speed run) uses the English version of Cauldron 2 on a PAL C64 emulated by VICE. Time would be 5/6 of that on NTSC. There's also a German version of Cauldron 2 with minor differences.

Made using VICE 1.20 and some selfmade tools.

  • why oh why keep people calling their walkthroughs "speedrun"? this ain't no speedrun: too many faults and situations wasting time. feeling cool making it and using tool assistance doesn't make a speedrun. you could make it at very least 10 - 15 secs faster. 2 stars cos it's a nice attempt but you lied about "speed"running it.

  • IMHO it would be nearly impossible to make it 10-15 secs faster unless you discover new tricks. What might seem to be a mistake at first glance (death or seemingly senseless bounces) is intended. Every time you bounce you have up to 6 different velocities to choose from (choice between each of left/center/right and low/high) and there's absolutely no mid-air control. Due to that lack of control taking the direct path as e.g. Mario would have taken it is not possible.

  • You're often off by a few pixels and have to make additional bounces to get to the right spot. Just try the game yourself and see how hard it really is.

Or did I get you wrong? If yes: give me a few examples what you're exactly referring to.

  • My best respects. I tried for years when I was young whithout result (max 3 objects). It had become my obsession. How long did you practise?

  • This is a TAS and thus rather about planning and trying.

I did not measure time but I believe it took somewhere between 20 and 40 hours.

  • At 6:14 you seem to die but don't lose a life?

  • At 6:14 the pumpkin doesn't die; what you see happens when falling down off the castle from above the 1st floor. Although the witches laugh it's not counted as death.

  • Havent seen this for two decades or more. Thanks for keeping a part of history alive :)

  • Brings back memories... What a frustrating yet great game!!!!

  • one of the hardest games ever, and a true classic, bring back a lot of memories from my childhood with my loved C64

  • @Hoofmeat It was another time. And the game designers knew the most important rule of life: The way is the goal. If you ever finish this bit*ch yourself, you will not need a cineastic extro anymore.

  • What a game, with such an original idea. Great Gfx and a killer theme. I remember drawing maps of the game when I was young, but never finished it. I wish I could travel back in time

  • Miałem z 5 lat gdy grałem w tę grę - nigdy jej nie przeszedłem, dzięki YT mogłem zobaczyć "zakończenie" ;)

  • @daskraut obviously you have never really played cauldron2. He made no mistakes. The lives he lost all were in purpose. Also before I saw a speedrun without any lives lost. Anyway cauldron2 is a real nightmare. Yoiu have no idea.

  • the best game ........THX

  • lol awesome
