Homeschoolers Arrested in New York: Slavery Returns to Amerika

In a move designed to send a message to parents, a Montgomery County, New York, couple were arrested and ticketed for homeschooling their children and failing to register their them with the school district.

News report on couple arrested for home-schooling.

Richard Cressy, 47, and Margie Cressy, 41, both of the town of Glen, never registered their four children or their home-schooling curriculum with the local school district, said the Sheriffs Office, reports WRGB, a CBS affiliate in Albany, New York. The Superintendent of the Fonda-Fultonville Central School District confirmed the four children, ranging in age from 8 to 14, had not been registered with the school district for the last seven years.

The couple may lose custody of their children. The case has been turned over to the Montgomery County District Attorney and the Child Protective Unit.

On his radio show today, Alex Jones said the arrest and demand that parents turn their offspring over to the state is like a scene out of Planet of the Apes. In the cult classic, apes hunt humans and intern them in a slave gulag. Police and the CPS are not acting like apes on the hunt. Jones pointed out that there is no law in New York criminalizing homeschooling and the arrest was predicated on a color of law regulation.

Local and state governments around the country have moved to criminalize homeschooling and force children to attend dangerous public schools. In 2008 in California, an appeals court ruled that parents do not have a constitutional right to home-school their children.

Germanys mandatory education laws are based on Hitlers Reichsculpflicht Gesetz (federal compulsory attendance laws) which were passed in 1938.

Earlier this year, a German couple asked for asylum in the United States after the German government ruled that homeschooling their children was illegal. Uwe Romeike and his family moved to Tennessee after the state threatened to fine him and take away his children. Romeike, an evangelical Christian, objects to German school textbooks containing language and ideas that conflict with his familys values.

Provisions in the California Education Code require persons between the ages of six and eighteen to be in public full-time day school, or a private full-time day school or instructed by a tutor who holds a valid state teaching credential for the grade being taught. The 2nd Appellate Court in Los Angeles argued that keeping the children at home deprived them of situations where they could interact with people outside the family. In other words, that court ruled that parents have no right to decide who their children interact with socially and that decision will be left to the state and bureaucrats.

  • Who should be held accountable? The people who should be held accountable are the idiots arresting people for homeschooling their children. This is outrageous. This law is criminal.

  • @Aurinkohirvi: Too much time is spent on social engineering curricula. Ever wonder why kids can't read, even after graduating? More time is allotted to subjects outside of the three R's. Alex is right. Home schooled kids are light years ahead of the others. Public education, and the NEA in D.C., are self-serving, tax-sucking lunatics, whose only concern is more money for less work.

  • I see nothing wrong with this. The fact that they were arrested is DISGUSTING.

So long as the federal gov acts within scientifically established bounds it is fine for them to make decisions to safeguard any possible dangers to society. take traffic speed limits 4 instance. Since that and many other things arnt specifically mentioned in the const should that be left upto individual people's majority OR SCIENTISTS KNOLEWDGABLE IN THE SPECIFIC FIELD? Same wld go for education. It should be decided by scientists in the relevant fields.

  • You are correct about the Constitution--there is no part of it that deals with homeschooling--but, also there is no part of the Constitution that says the government should sponsor or control education of any kind, public or private. It must be remembered that the Constitution was written to limit the federal government to only those activities enumerated within the words of the Constitution--this does not include education--that is left to the States and/or the people.

  • I was told by a junior high school principal that my children were "wards of the state" during the time of day they were in his public school. Parents are not even allowed to write notes for absence excuses anymore. We are told only a doctor's excuse will get an excused absence. Parents are not respected by the state and our children are taught we have no authority.

  • ...other IS citizens OR WORSE tells them to only show them outwardly love but tht he/she must scretkly scheme against them so as to one day take over when theyre strong enough. Same wld go for Christians who might teach their children to despise homosexuals and/or imprison ppl for such behavior for example. DO U realize how dangerous this is when children are taught in secret without other US citizens being able to watch wht theyre being taught?

  • @joe80dman

Yes but wldnt that be the default and logical thing to do PROVIDED the gov was really controlled by the people and not the Elite? NOW the first amendment as far as i can tell has nothing to do with teaching kids for kids are still vulnerable and subject to dogma. HENCE the US as a whole has to agree on what children be taught so that they wont grow up to harm others. THERE r all inds of fanatic rteligous factions in the US. Say a "muslim" in the US teaches his children to hate all...

  • @jonnykzj : You won't find a sentence within the Constitution that grants to government the authority to educate children either. The NEA is a modern day invention passed during the Carter administration. It's actually un-Constitutional. Education is supposed to be a states rights issue, a local matter. The 1st Amendment guarantees the parents to determine the education of their own kids. Why would you believe that homeschoolers are teaching bias to their kids? Nonsense.

  • @joe80dman

I have some problems with homeschooling. 1st of all I have never read about ANY constitutional rights tht grants US citiziens the rights to homsechool. If there r plz show me. 2ndly how is homeschooling regulated 4 wld u want parents to teach their children to hate ppl of other ideologies/religions etc? if not then other ppl also dont want children to be indoctrinated with religious dogma. THT is the danger i see with homeschooling. it heavily BIASES the children.
