Devasting earthquake that destroyed Managua ... baseball great Roberto Clemente was killed in a plane crash seeking to aid the victims. Also mentioned is the plane crash that the book/film "Alive" was based on and what they did to stay alive (I kept the last story because its a strange way to follow up that story)

  • I am 100% Puerto Rican.....

But I've visited Nicaragua 3 times and I love it. Love the food, the lakes, the volcanos, Granada, Miramar, SJ de Sur, Boaco, Managua, ALL of it....

But the problem is not only the Government, but also the people. The ons with power and money, the ones with voice, don't stand p for what is right!!!!

38 years later, some blame this earthquake still for the problems in Nica....I love the country, but the selfishess and cowardness is killing the country.

  • Zomosa, Sandinistas, Violeta , Arnoldo???? Cual es la diferencia??? NINGUNO HA HECHO NADA POR NICARAGUA, MAS QUE ROBAR Y BENEFICIARSE A ELLOS MISMOS....SINO VENDEN EL CULO A LOS GRINGOS, LO VENDEN A FIDEL...ASI QUE TODOS SON IGUALES!!!

  • I mean to say "Puerto Rican Amateur Baseball team's manager"

  • Roberto Clemente was Puerto Rican indeed. He came to Nicaragua in the earlier part of December 1972 as the Puerto Rican Amateur Baseball team to participate in the World Amateur Baseball Championship hosted by Nicaragua. After learning about the earthquake in Managua, he chartered a plane to bring supplies to help Nicaraguans affected by the disaster. His plane crashed in the Caribbean for unknown reasons and a baseball star was lost at that time.

  • My most enduring hero died trying to use his influence to help the victims..Rest In Peace Roberto.

  • @pushups2345 if im wrong i certainly apologize, my memory as as a kid my inaccurate.

I just searched it on wiki = you are correct, good catch !!

  • @SkuIICrusherGhost I believe Clemente was Puerto Rican, right? I've never heard of him being from Nicaragua...

  • My mother was 13 years old at the time. I cannot imagine how scare she was after this tragedy and everything else that followed. Nicaraguans have suffered so much.

  • @pushups2345

Plus one of USA Baseballs Greats, Native of Nicaragua Roberto Clemente how had his 3,000th hit in

his final game of that season-1972.

His flight with supplies on board and others crashed as he perished no bodies ever found.

R.I.P. TO ALL THOSE LOST !

  • @hauiti323: it is without a doubt that many of the citizens in Nicaragua are not active in the political tribulations; however, the earthquake undoubtedly affected Nicaragua's economic stability. before being able to even remotely recover from the disastrous earthquake, nicaragua experienced a violent revolution that expelled Somoza from power, and, shortly after, the Contra-Sandinista war. The earthquake was one of the major events in the second half of the century that caused devastating harm.

  • My mom was there too :(

    Thank God For my Mom

    She brought us here!
