This is my second attempt at breadboarding my disco light setup that will eventually make its way into my coffee table (glass topped). PIC16F88 communicating via I2C to two MAX6956 chips.
The closer breadboard consists of the top three rows (half) of a 6x6 LED grid, the other MAX will control the bottom 3 rows, but at the moment only 5 LEDs connected to that one.
May look messy, but at the mo its as tidy as I could have linked 18 wires back to the processor breadboard.
Simple staggered fade up and down light pattern for testing.
I will be implementing a Daft Punk table style (albeit in blue and 6x6) motion pattern and I'm thinking of other modes involving a variety of complicated light patterns & brightnesses all with customisable speeds and other options. Also a two player pong game implementation and customisable text scroller, later on!!
I have proved the concept - now its down to whether the F88 has enough RAM to let me do all this without needing some kind of PC connectivity too - time to write very efficient code.

  • how mutch vold did u use?

  • @PSPENZO1

5 volts throughout the system, but the LEDs were current controlled by the LED controller chips. Current was still quite high for all those LEDs, over 1amp I think.

So were talking about 5watts, not too bad as the table is pretty bright.

Everyone check out all my other disco table project videos after this one, there are several detailing a lot of the design and build process...

  • Why do people record videos like this, zooming in to show us stuff, but not saying anything. Neat, but don't be afraid of your own voice.

  • @Psychlist1972

Thanks, but you probably wouldn't say that if you heard my voice!

    ;-)

  • Very Awesome!!!!!!! Keep us updated.

  • thx 4 your support. Its very much appreciated!

Check out "Disco Table project vid3" on my channel page for the latest update.

The project has slowed down a little recently, work + other obligations.

However I've written all the software for the Daft Punk effect (as seen in other peoples YT vids) but the code needs some serious tidying up before its good to go.

I'm also ready to carry on work on the actual coffee table this is going into.

    Thanks again!!!

  • que pelotudo

  • i'm pretty sure theres a way to do this more compactly, and maybe use color changing LED's, have 4 or more colors

  • CAT 5 cables ftw!!!!!

  • Ethernet cables FTW?

  • @H3liosphan Cool! These LEDs produce alot of light. How much current drives each one of them?

  • god u make it sound like a robotic porno lol
