Hiding A Depression: How The US Government Does It

Overview
The real US unemployment rate is not 9.8% but between 25% and 30%. That is a depression level of job losses - so why doesn't it look like a depression for many people? How can so large of a statistical discrepancy exist, and how is it that holiday shopping malls are so crowded in a depression?

The true devastation is hidden by essentially placing the job losses inside three different "boxes": the official unemployment box, the true full unemployment box, and most importantly, the staggering and persistent private sector job loss box that has been temporarily covered over by a fantastic level of governmental deficit spending. The "recovering and out of the recession" cover story is only plausible when nobody connects the dots and adds all the boxes together.

I had a feeling it was much more than 10% unemployment. It's no wonder I'm having such a hard time finding full-time employment. I don't think we'll ever see the days where "if you want a job you got a job" again.

wow 2011 unemployment makes 1930 unemployment look like everybody was employed. At least they had soup kitchens back then.

Christmas in 2 weeks.. it sucks. i got 3 checks for $183 a week left. i got a letter in the mail today stating i would not receive my 2nd tier because of budget cuts. no fault of my own. my rent is due on the first for the amount of $360 and utility bill in the amount of $260.. to put it simple..... im fucked

The cops and sheriffs need to organize to NOT kick people out of their homes for non-payment of the Uncle Sam sponsored Land-rent-property tax scam. Make it legal to work and reside without extortion payments. Hey, there's an idea! No extortion payments?! Why, theft is necessary to pay for services. Hmm - I wonder if that principle works for theft of sex, too....

The governement is not going to destroy retirees and boomers, we are going to destroy them. You can't have about 50 million people desperate and irate in this country without radical change occuring. I now know that I'm going to have to work for the rest of my life. I consider myself lucky, I have a job, my friends haven't worked in since 2008 and they have gone through their retirements and are about to loose their houses. I am very pissed and am not alone. There are more of us than them.

I would forget the false idea of superiority that Americans unfortunately have (please forgive my honesty) and go to Canada and Europe and healthy places, to work and live. You will have free healthcare, your children will be smart and healthy, and you will be taking care of important things in life, like family and friends. America is not a good place to be right now nor will it be for many many years. I wish you the best.

Yep, true. The percent rate is base on the people who are currently on UI. Pretty soon my unemployment check will be cut too. I am so worried. It is tough as a single person, I can't imagine people with family.
