While this technique works well for iron which softens as you hammer it does not work well with silver or copper which harden as you hammer them - flat face of the hammer is best unless you intentionally want a hammered [dimpled] finish on the piece.
You need to use fine silver, not sterling, to fuse silver. Fine silver is 100% silver whereas sterling silver is 92.5% silver, 7.5% copper (it's an alloy). One of the advantages of fusing is that there is no oxidation so you don't have to pickle it.
Nice video. I actually work with iron, and steel in a forge. My comment to you is have you ever tried using the ball side of your ballpeen hammer? If you try it to flatten your wire, I think you might find it does a better and easier job. Hope you try it and it works good for you. Luck.
nice demo!
