In a runaway vote, Peyton Manning of the Colts was named the AP's NFL Most Valuable Player for 2008. In the process, the Indianapolis quarterback joins Brett Favre as the only three-time winner in the award's 52-year history. (Jan. 2)
I never said he deserved it b/c he's had a better career. I'm saying that he deserved it b/c he was the MOST VALUABLE player to his team during the 2008 season.
Manning was the logical choice. His stats were not outstanding but solid; he was very was clutch, 7 4rth Quarter Comebacks (Ties his own NFL Record for Most in a Single Season); and basically was the sole reason for 6 of the team's wins. He led the Colts to their 6th straight 12+ win season despite a running game that was 31st in the league and a defense that was on the field more than any other defense in the NFL.
Turner was dominate at home but played like crap on the road. Ryan was the best Rookie QB since Ben Roethlisberger yet they are never going to give the MVP to a Rookie. He still probably should've gotten a vote or two though. Cassel was good but believe me the Patriots receivers made him look better then he really is.
He was the most deserving candidate. Sure Rivers and Brees had better stats but it's not just about stats. It's about being the best PLAYER. You cannot sit here and tell me that Rivers or Brees is better then Peyton Manning.
It wasn't b/c he didn't want a balanced offense, if anything that's what he tried to get all season long, the o-Line just couldn't run block worth shit. If the running game isn't working yet the passing game is, then why try to be balanced? Why keep trying something that obviously ISN'T WORKING. He didn't throw a lot b/c he wanted to, he threw a lot b/c that's what he had to do to get his team wins.
Stuff like that goes to Players that put up big stats. Not the MOST VALUABLE PLAYER to his team. Manning was more valuable to the Colts then Brees was to the Saints. Brees is still a beast though. They nain reason he didn't win it was b/c his team had only 8 wins.
well that's probablly because Drew Brees had an amzaing passing year, but where did he end up. not on a 9 game win streak after knee surgery that's for sure.

They were both better in 2008 and it was the 2008 MVP, not career MVP or something like that.
