A lot of radio stations had this song on their "Banned List". The premise was this song was a "call to arms" for black folks to take to the streets and conquer America a la "Sparticus". It was great publicity. Of course it played a lot on the AM black stations. Still laugh about that Mick Jagger/David Bowie version on "Family Guy". "It happened and we LET it happen" ~ Peter Griffin.

Loved this song about music unifying people through music.. Did not know Marvin Gaye played the drums. Never fails to get me in the mood to rock. I saw Martha and the Vandellas in Newark, NJ in 1968. That may date me. I'm 59 but I don't care. I will take music over the Boob Tube any day. Be blessed.

AND SWEET MUSIC IT WAS! Marvin had soooo much influence over this music of this day! Thanks Marvin!
Marvin Gaye on drums here. He was a helluva drummer before he ever sang.

Must purge memory of Family Guy episode that satirized the Bowie/Jagger video...
