Outside is -16 C, we are covered by feet of snow, I could not resist escaping to a better place through music. This is a variation in the theme from the surf movie The Endless Summer, originally composed by The Sandals. I play the song differently from the original, in the way that it makes me feel I am next to the ocean. I do love the ocean.

I was born in Paraguay, a landlocked country, but as a kid, my parents used to take us every year for a month to a beach in Brazil. I got into surfing there, I was not very good but spent every waking second in the waves and the sea, it was a beautiful thing, I was bitten hard by the surf bug.

Recently I was re-watching the great surf movie-documentary, The Endless Summer, and it just made me crave the surf again. It has been about 10 years since I last surfed, but I need to get back in shape and into the sea, and this weather here in Chicago only makes me want it more.

In the second half of the video I put some pictures I took of trips my wife and I took to various beaches. I still go to the beach once in a while, but haven't been to surfing spots. And then i put some pictures that I did not take of some amazing waves.

Enjoy, and I hope the music can transport you as it does for me.

  • Outstanding, awesome!!! I have always loved this song! I grew up in Southern California. I saw The Endless Summer when I was 8 years old. Needless to say I was motivated to start surfing!

  • @MrDanzo711 Thanks for the feedback. I did surf from about 12 into my mid twenties, used to go every summer vacation to Brazil (lived in Paraguay with no sea) and surfed as much as I could. I haven't done it in more than 10 years now and am feeling melancholic for it. If I surfed now, I am so out of shape that I would take a beating. Nothing like the sea and the water though. You must know what I mean. There is a special thing going on in the waves.

  • Dynamite!

  • I really like the soundtrack to "The Endlass Summer" and I went into your variation with a very critical attitude. When it was over I saved it for future use, It was so good. I enjoyed it immensely. Thank you very much!

I like the mood you've got in your playing, it seems very authentic for the song. And you're right about McCabe! I'm not usually a big fan of effects but I have to say he knows how to use them! Urban Hymns has their best songs but A Storm in Heaven has this fantastic reverb-washed atmosphere.

  • nice

  • What I tried the other day was the EH electric mistress, fantastic flanger. When I use the flanger from my multi-fx pedal it sounds cheap, but the electric mistress has an incredible full sound, I may get it. By the way the overdriven tone from your last vids is really good.

  • Yeah i love them too. It make playing all that more interesting. There are so many to play about with!!!! endless fun. I'm after my own effect and tone. I will find it soon

  • What can I say, l like effects, they increase the possibilities. Some people scorn them, I embrace them. Some of my favorite bands use effects. Was listening lately to a lot of Floyd and The Verve, both Gilmour and McCabe do the most wonderful sounds with their guitars. This cover however does not have too many effects, well, a loop pedal and quite a lot of reverb.
