Westland, Michigan Police accused of assaulting women, being sued for $2M

They're sworn to protect and serve, but what do you do when you need protection from an officer?

Officer Brooks said Gardner spit in his face as she was being placed in the cell. He then "decided to remove the mattress from her cell as a result of her aggressive behavior." Gardner began punching and kicking, so he struck her three times, describing the blows as "closed fist strikes" to her head and face. He noticed that her lip was bleeding and had dispatchers call EMS.

The attorney for Gardner said the video does not show Gardner kicking or punching the officers and that the report is a cover-up.Westland Police Chief Alan Ramsden said he didn't have the facts of the case before him so he couldn't comment on what happened. He said it is not department procedure to remove mattresses as a form of discipline.

If I were on your jury, I'd vote to give you every penny. I'm just sick and tired of cops acting like thugs.

I'm not sure what the problem is - if they cannot attract good cops because of low pay or if it's because they hire ex-military with emotional problems. But it's happening more and more. I just read of another case involving police brutality in Westland, Michigan. He is suing, too. I hope the awards are enough to close down that corrupt department. Let the county patrol the streets.
