  • Okay, so I'm interested in buying a game and I look at wikipedia to generally see what it's about, I should instead buy a $10 book that's 200 pages long about it? Okay and you're whole argument is based on one section of one wikipedia article. Can you please give me other articles that are inaccurate. And the thing about being lazy: do you really expect somebody to buy $100 worth of books to write a fucking wikipedia article?

  • @mysterypersonbc The stated purpose of Wikipedia is to provide credible information. If the sources used to write Wikipedia articles are not credible or the information is misrepresented, then the goal of Wikipedia is not being met for those articles.

  • I guess nowadays it's necessary to read 600 page books to play videogames, do I need to use Turnitin to check for plagiarism?

  • @codependent864 You seem to be missing the point of what I'm saying. This has to do with researching reliable information about videogames. There are reliable and unreliable sources because not all print is done with the same amount of scrutiny and journalist integrity.

  • What if someone were to start a magazine/site that was just opinions and thoughts based on the games and stated that upright. And no reviews, just someones thoughts on the game?

  • @RpgExposition That's an idea I'd support.

  • @jfreedan Cool list. Here's some more non-linear RPGs: Agarest, Ar Tonelico, Atelier, Blazing Souls, Castlevania II & SOTN, Chaos Legion, Chaos World, Dark Law, DQ V & VIII, Dragon Valor, Drakengard, Ephemeral Fantasia, FF VI, Fire Emblem, Majin Tensei, Megami Tensei I-II, Persona 2, Odin Sphere, Orphen, Prism Ark, Romance Three Kingdoms, Steambot Chronicles, Suikoden, Summon Night, Sword World, Taiko Risshiden, Tears to Tiara, Uncharted Waters, Yakuza, Way of Samurai, Wizap, ZIll O'll
  • I agree a lot of the things said in the "cultural differences" article section are just not true or far too broad or stereotypical. Since the section won't ever be going away, I've instead tried to bring some balance to it by adding some opposing views, e.g. against the JRPG=turn-based and WRPG=real-time opinion. However, I haven't yet found opposing views against the JRPG=linear and WRPG=nonlinear opinion (even though I know many games that don't fit these descriptions).

  • I pity those foolish journalists.

  • @mysterypersonbc You obviously don't understand logic/critical thinking. Your comment is a Straw Man fallacy, which means: "changing or exaggerating an opponent's position to make it easier to refute." The point of this video is that Wikipedia's game article's are not credible and that people should instead only trust articles that use reliable sources. RPG Fanatic shows "Designing Virtual Worlds" as an example of a reliable source. Remember kids, Logic Fallacies sound smart to stupid people!

  • Here's an idea: don't use wikipedia to search things even if it's the first thing on google. Don't search Chuck Norris on wiki and expect facts. All you'll get is cult worship and few facts about him. If you want credible facts, go to a library site or something similar and find source material. And you don't need to read a long book just to play a game, just to intelligently critic it in media. And notice all games in Game Informer have 7 or higher ratings. They are being paid to put that.

  • @RpgExposition Problem about that there were magazines that did that but the game corparations is diffrent these days. Its all about money and how much they can squeeze out of your wallet. Most game review magazines and sites get under pressure by those game companies to give there game a good rating. I even knew a magazine that statet they were sometimes treatened to make a review of that game or they wont advertise or send a review copy of the game.

  • FFIV, my son is named after that game!

  • @jfreedan Okay, nothing is perfect. Stop finding problems with everything, okay.

  • @codependent864 to play... nope. To write an article in an encyclopedia... yes.

  • Wikipedia is usualky edited by smart people who know their stuff
