Hypoglycemia forces Laurant Fignon to stop. Dirk De Wolf (2nd in the UCI Road World Championships 1990), talks to Laurent Fignon, encourages him and pushes him till the finish. Then, Laurent Fignon recovers and restarts the following day.

Antonello Godoli and myself shot these scenes; it was very cold that day and at some point it started to snow. The peloton of the Giro had already passed the pass (Passo di Giau).
Antonello and I decided to rest a bit at the small canteen of the pass and to wait till the crowd of fans would leave the road. When we left the chophouse
there was nobody around; incredulous we saw Laurant Fignon, left behind by everyone, alone...
