This building once housed an Austin semi-legendary dive called The One Knite during the early 70's. I read it was referred to as "The joint that wouldn't go out." That was before I lived here and I've seen it mentioned in print plenty of times although I can't find any in depth info on the web. Now it is 2008 and for the last ten years or more it has been a BBQ Joint that is also a popular bar and music venue located in Downtown Austin at 801 Red River. It's well worth checking out if you ever come to Austin.

  • Stubbs is the hottest place in Austin for Rock music. The place ROCKS!

Just do a YouTube search for "Stubbs Austin Texas" and find out for yourself, lots of great music vids recorded there by tons of people. And lots of great bands, it's neat to now know the History if the place. Thats pretty wild that it was once a biker bar! Now thats just crazy! It is also the hottest place in town for BBQ ribs! The best in the West! err SouthWest?

But yeah this a great place to go in Austin!

  • Stubbs ROCKS!

  • @sjpcontreras Yeah, Stubb's is a yuppified tourist trap. Salt Lick is good too, but it's way the hell out in Driftwood across from Camp Ben McCullough. It's BYOBeer and all you can eat family style. Less than $20 a head for a stuff-a-thon. Be sure to BYOBeer, if you want any, because that's the only way get it out there. It's right next to where the Old Time Settler's Music Festival is held each year.

  • Don't go for BBQ. You can make better than that!!! And service was bad!!! Rude! Slow! We couldn't enjoy our BBQ trip because of them. But others were good - Green Mesquite & kreuz & luling.

  • If poor ol' C.B. Stubbs could have gotten this kind of support when he was alive , maybe he wouldn't have died poor, broke, and used. This isn't the One Night anymore, and Austin isn't the same either....

  • stubbs is the spot

  • I remember the One Knite, yeah it was known as a biker bar back then. Lots of the best bands in Austin played there however, on Saturday nights you couldn't get in the place. It was a sad day when it went down for us local bikers it really sucked to see it close. Stubbs is an OK place for music -when they have someone other than some Rap Crap band going on.

  • Haha...the chick behind the bar didn't want to be on film, wounder who she's hiding from?

  • This year on May 16-17 Stubbs BBQ amphitheatre will host the Texas Rockabilly Revival.

Reverend Horton Heat, Unknown Hinson, Lee Rocker, Lonesome Spurs, The original Rockats (with Levi Dexter [and his wife pinup Bernie Belle]), Guana Batz, Th' Legendary Shack Shakers, Koffin Kats and Brigitte Handley. That line-up sounds worthy of a trip to see Wise George in Austin.

  • The place looks the Alamo!

FYI: The Alamo was a siege and massacre at a mission in San Antonio in 1836; Mexican forces under Santa Anna besieged and massacred American rebels who were fighting to make Texas independent of Mexico.

LOL...now the Mexicans want it back! Heehee!!!

    Think maybe they won!
