i've always had a crush on those hofner basses. i originally wanted to get one, but have it finnished in a cherry red color instead of burst. but, i opted out for my beautiful Samantha ( blonde 51 style tele bass with the grain flowing in two different directions.) yes, its the name of a girl i know, but no, we arent intimately in a relationship of any kind.

@FlametopFred yeah. to be honest the rick is the superior bass when it comes to versatility but macca has single handedly made the hofner an icon.

I am curious about this - would Paul McCartney have been using the Rickenbacker bass about the time of Revolver? I think he got his around late 1965 or so. But it's never quite clear from the studio literature. For live performances he was still using the Hofner of course. But on record you can certainly hear sonic differences around Revolver and Sgt. Pepper. Nice vid here
