I learned with tapes in 6th grade and I play just fine now without them. ^^ My orchestra thought that was what was best, because if you have tapes, you KNOW those are the right notes, and then your fingers will remember where to go, y'know, muscle memory. I had them on for about a year, and then got them off, now I'm in 8th grade and I play fine without them. If you have tapes also, you know that's where you should your finger, and your ear will get used to hearing it like that. :)

You shouldn't use tape. You can get dependent on it and it may not be the correct note. Instead, train your ear, which will work better in the long run.
