I have a modern A/V system with full Blu-ray capability, but I can definitely appreciate the appeal of old audio and video formats.

For being high-end-ish there is more wow than I expected. Although my Technics RS-858DUS 8-track is TOTL and hardly has any wow, I figured decks like yours would be a bit more stable. Definitely listenable though. (Perhaps it is just old belts...?)

i miss the old days so much..

When I was a kid, I thought that we were so modern... to possess an 8 tracks...

this entire video is epic.

@lizichell2 that's great and all, but not everything was recorded after 2005. I hope you manage to hear everything before then, as it will eventually converted to a format for your system...right? We wouldn't want any gems to fall through the cracks. That's the fun thing about music..preservation of everything and finding something you've never heard before.

your excited because you an 8 track player? i thought everyone had destroyed theirs by now.

oh yeeaahh my 7.1 channel HD uncompressed PCM blu-ray sound can't step to it.
Nice, really nice. I read these were used in cars. Do you have a video to see this working in a car stereo?

@heinzpo I have a video of a car 8-track player, but it's not in a car.

Wow I still have my pioneer H-Hr100 8track deck still hooked up to my stereo.
Have you ever try to record a compact disc to it?

@bigbadwolf2007 Not CD I think, but I did record computer to it and live playing on the synthesizer.

Just noticed something about those VU meters. Do you know if they are tuned to a certain band in the frequency spectrum? Say, centred around 1KHz, roughly where the vocal track lies... Or is it an artifact of the compression on the recording that pushes the vocals out that far? The latter may relate to late '60s/'70s recording techniques for this type of production but I'm not sure if making vocals stand out so much in the mix was a thing at that particular time.

I don't know exactly what's going on with what you're saying there, but some 8-tracks are recorded strong and some not very strong.
