  • typically, i use deaf when discussing deafness as a condition, Deaf when as a people/culture. that's how i use

  • I agree, if everyone could just be more welcoming to others then even the (cringe) little d deaf can develop and understand what it means to be a mature big D person. But as for the term, (d)eaf should strictly mean the audiological aspect of a profound hearing loss, NOT be an oppressive label.

  • @fordlsu Agreed!

  • Come on! ur 30 or 40 something yrs old. Need to grow up and get along with the real world.

  • I'm still fine with 'd' ... don't get me wrong but I'm proud of being deaf... it's only word... "Deaf" is like "deaf power" .. I am Deaf! or in humble way.. I am deaf.. who cares? it reminds me of "God" and "god" .. must use 'G' .. never use 'g' ... (snickers) no offense but I think it's ridiculous.. it's all about pride... must use 'D'.. screw that

  • Well you make a good point but I agree with Barb, I always call myself Deaf, never use small d.

  • Good point

    You nailed it !

I feel deaf is weak imo. I like call Deaf better

    D *two thumbs*

  • You make a good point, but I have to say I agree with Barb. We should always use big D! Ive always called myself Deaf! And never used small D!

  • I did not know why my first comment did not go through. When I said ASC, I mean Alternative Solutions Center. That was where I saw it the first time. They have a blog on the same topic from last year. It is good to revisit the topic. I always enjoy your video clips.

  • Oops! I saw a link. I realized you were responding to deafprogressiveism. I already read about it at ASC. They wrote about it last year. good response though.
