Domingos is an innovative farmer who lives in Serra Malagueta, Santiago, Cape Verde. He took one day to show Alex Alper and I around his drip irrigation system, fog collection nets, and glass bottle insulation wall.

  • Other african countrys could do this.

  • yeah, they totally could. how do you implement it though?

  • Maybe open drip irrigation product factories in Africa?

  • good idea. i think thats much easier said than done. companies should move to africa though, they would make money and with the economy heading south, that might be a good idea.

    so... where do we start?

  • More supply stores and Education of residents? I am unaware of any other way to do so? What is your opinion?

  • i agree. who's going to do that though?

working as a peace corps volunteer, ive found it takes alot of energy to first convince poor people they need to innovate and second get them to continue doing it once you leave.

except for the rare few like domingos, most people are a tough sell. guess that's all the more reason to make domingos famous

    You, me. We do it.

Remains the question: Where to start?

How is answered: It's a job for families, not goons with guns.

  • very good reporting! Cape Verdean society used to be centered on agriculture and the land, but these days this connection between the people and land are fading. The different styles of vegetation, herbal medicine etc is forgotten by new generation. I like this.

  • This video has to be shown to more people in Cape Verde.
