@Lukeor True even do capitalism is not perfect their is no better system, besides jesus himself had socialst ideals as a matter of fact he was the first socialist always talking about helping the poor and telling the rich to abandon their riches and follow him. As an atheist I want nothing to do with a political philosphy related to that clown, the only non christian thing about socialism and communism is that the people who represent it are atheists.

Atheism and socialism are directly opposed. the state is the most violent religion to adopt. Your ID is sickening. And yeah, message me. I'll deal with you and your response.

@Omnilegence I'm not really following you. You've just said "whether by force or volition) an endorser of ..." when kids are forced to engage in this activity they're not endorsing anything. To endorse means to "Declare one's public approval or support of something" & they don’t, equally as much as Hitchens (& Dawkins) (rightfully) protest when kids are called catholic or any religion. The kids don't have a religion i.e. belief, the parents bequeath it upon them. Similar principle.

@TheAtheistSocialist I didn't argue against that. In fact I already knew and accepted the historical fact of Hitler's persecution of athiests. I'm an athiest myself in point of fact.
I think maybe i'm being stupid, are you just supporting my comment or are you arguing attempting to illuminate me under the misapprehension of my position?
Nice profile picture by the way, very pretty.

@Omnilegence All atheists groups were forced to disband by Hitler in 1933. Look up "German Freethinkers League" on wiki. The suggestion that we are Nazis is beyond ridiculous.
-
@Omnilegence Most of the attention on Hitler's persecution goes to the Jews, and rightfully so but further research will tell you that atheists were persecuted by the SS as well.
-
@trident3b He didn't suggest it was voluntary. He was highlighting the hypocrisy of having been (whether by force or volition) an endorser of nazicism in the past and then declaring athiests to be nazis, a group with particularly good history with regards to nazicism.

I've got a lot of time for Hitchens (rip), but I do feel that he was also capable of making some juicy mistakes at times. Before I get slammed here, I'm on his side with regard to religion and the nasty Jewish and US habit (with some others too) of mutilating babies etc. But regarding this video I have to say that this fellow Ratzinger had no choice. The Hitler youth was a forced upon activity for kids of that age at that time. They had no choice. Suggesting Ratzinger voluntarily joined is wrong
such brilliance....we are so lucky he existed and was so prolific.
