Just received my new electric drum kit, the Yamaha DTXPress IV Special. It's brilliant! I've got it plugged into my Mac via a Presonus Firebox and it's triggering sounds in Toontrack Superior Drummer 2.0 software plug-in with Garageband '09 as the host. Movie was edited in iMovie '09, video captured using Panasonic LX3 in HD mode.

  • Man, great performance!! (both playing and sound)

I have a macbook pro, a yamaha dtxpress 3 and a midi to usb cable...What i am still missing to record just as you do?? just the SD2 software?? is it used like a plugin to the garageband or an stand-alone software? How do you control the drums on the computer???

  • SD2 is the software I use which acts as a standalone app and also a plugin for Garageband, but there are others like BFD. You would also need a good audio interface for low latency playback, I use a Presonus Firebox, but, again, there are others.

  • whats the sd2?

  • Superior Drummer software, it's a virtual instrument for drums and is triggered by the electric kit. SD2 runs on a computer as software.

  • One more question! How do you play drums sectoin with other songs( not with songs recorded to Yamaha drum modul)

Is it special tools ,or programm which turns drums sounds ON and OFF?? Thanks !!

  • I add a track to Garageband and import the song I want to play along and then record the drums to a second track and just level the drums higher-up in the mix so they drown out the original drums.

  • just perfect!

  • What is: SD2 ?

  • How did you connect the Ride cymbal? Is there an extra input for that?

    thanks!

  • Damn, dude. Sweet playing with good timing. I liked your performance, but I also want to compliment you on something else... thank you for using a high quality camera and excellent lighting to really show off how tight the DTXpress IV is. I know I'm in the minority, but I think the DTXpress IV has the edge over the Roland TD-9.

I'll be getting this set in 3 weeks... WOOT! See ya.

  • please do a vid of how u set everything up

  • Please, and email address to contact you man!! I have some doubts you could certainly resolve regarding my kit (yamaha dtxpress and SD2!!)
