I talk about and do some performance testing of a strong little PVC pipe bow design. The measured draw weight of the finished bow is 40 lbs. YouTuber "Themanscave" (Jared) has made a video about building this bow. The cost for the materials to make the basic bow are less than $10.

After making this video I made and teasted a 2nd bow. This bow was made from Sch. 40 PVC plumbing pipe (white) instead of PVC conduit (gray). This bow had a measured draw weight of 49 lbs. and arrow penetration was between 3.25" and 3.375". Much better penetration than the gray PVC conduit.

Here's a link to the construction video for this PVC pipe bow: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3zyV8tZGJtE

  • We're should I get the string

  • @SuperHockeymaster8 This is the easiest solution IMO: buy a real bowstring that's about the right length and then build your bow to fit that string.

If you have a real boat store nearby Especially a sailing boat store, they will have low stretch 1/8" double diamond braid cord and probably in Dacron as well.

Other options are 1/8" sash cord and 200 lb test Dacron planer board line like you find at Bass Pro Shop or other fishing tackle suppliers.

  • well 50 lb vs 40lb wow do a 40 lb recerve bow im shure it will do the same in in.

  • It's important to understand the performance differences between proven technology like traditional bow designs and unproven designs like the PVC pipe bow. In survival It's important to conserve energy and time. Understanding the limitations of a tool might put more meat in your belly faster with less energy expended

I've also built a 49 lb draw weight PVC pipe bow. It doesn't penetrate as well as either of the tradition wood bows. There's a note included during the video. PVC = less velocity

  • can u make a bowfishin vid of u wit the bow

  • @imryebread1 Good idea! This summer when the stingrays are active on the sandbars, I'll do that.

  • @CrypticCRICKET That makes sense.

Even though two bows might show the same poundage at full draw using a scale, if one is more flexible and can return to its shape faster it will send the arrow out with greater velocity.

  • hey i was just wanderen if u can make a vid of u reviewin and shootin the 49lb bow
