But i've got them 5 years with no problems! Only the mono is eating all the food en got a little big. The video is poor quality.

  • Dear all,

The big mono is dead. He eat a corydora and the fish got stuck in his throat. I try to rescue him, but it was already too late. He was 7 years old and even bigger than you see on the video. Sorry for my English, it's not very good.

  • @kibblenotes The Mono Sebae is a not a coldwater fish and should not be kept in cold water AT ALL. IT IS TROPICAL AND SHOULD BE KEPT IN A HEATED TANK.

Some fish are more resiliant to major changes in water temperature.

It sounds like your Mono caught an infection, likely brought on by stress in tank conditions.

All of your fish should be eating proper fish food, not flies and worms from your garden.

Is this a joke? Please tell me this is a joke.

  • @ZA56AA how do u care and what do they eat ? my mono died - had it only 2 days - in cold water with gold, b/skirt tetra ,pleco and it had white - ish mucus over its eyes.. i fed my gold fish flies and worms from my garden, the flies sit on dog poop > u think the mono got infected ?

  • @1978Pass does ur mono stay in warm water ? i had one mono and it day - only had it 2 days in cold water with gold, b/skirt tetra pleco

  • @KarboNeTikz

I already have monos in a freshwater tank for three years now and they are big and healthy.

I will transfer them in a bigger aquarium hopefully first thing next year because those things cost much money.

The supposedly necessity of adding salt and turn it into brackish when you are dealing with monos it's a myth for easy convinced people.

I do not exclude however that they can be healthier in a purelt brackish water although i believe it;s not a necessity to my experience.

  • @KarboNeTikz

Let 's not exaggerate things in here.

I have heard anecdotal reports that monos can even survive for very long time periods in freshwater as long as the PH is being kept steady high.

That's all they need:high PH as well as KH and that's it.

All the rest are big exaggerations for fools as far as i am concerned and i will tell you why:who told you that the monos we buy from shops are the same as the natures'? Monos of the farms live THREE times more than the species of nature.

  • @KarboNeTikz I've had mine in straight freshwater for 4 years now and mines in perfect condition and getting huge.

  • Well that gives me hope for my Mono!

I've got a freshwater aquarium and I bought a Mono Sebae without being told they will need to be converted to brackish water!

BASTARDS! And I love him too dearly to let him go, so contemplated giving him away to a store that would take him, but now I see your boy, and I have hope for my own =)

Tell me, has he contracted any diseases/parasites since you've had him?

I've heard that freshwater Monos have weaker immune systems.

    CHEERS!

  • Jaren geleden had ik grote maanvissen, toen kocht ik een 10 tal zilverbladvissen, maar die vielen de maanvissen aan ,jammer maar maanvissen weggedaan, kan niet altijd samen!!

    blijven mooie vissen,monodactylus!

    Mick.
