So is this Bruckner's or Matacic's piece? It's great, btw.

bravo maestro, imamo se čime ponositi...

superbe!

idk, i like the beginning to go a bit slower.

Ahh! Nice! That beginning was far from the tinkling piano. I love nice forceful, Wagner-like Holst-like music that makes its presence felt. It makes me feel inspired when I listen to it!

very great performance in Tokyo !

Wow, I have this cd on Denon. It was the first Bruckner 8th I got on cd back in the 80's. I didn't know a video existed of it. I don't even know if it's in print anymore. I still go back to it, one of the best!

The Finale is the apotheosis of Bruckner's mighty 8th (aptly named "The Apocalyptic") and creates a triad with the perfect melding of the Heroic, the Tragic and the Eternal.
Lovro von Matacic has a profound understanding of this extraordinary work. His conception is dead-on, and the NHK follow his lead, acquitting themselves quite well, with the tympanist getting special mention.
The Old Lion exited the podium on the fourth day of 1885; this may well be his final gift to Bruckner - and us.
He looks like a big bear up there on that podium, waving his paws around - wearing oven mitts - but he lights a fire under that orchestra and they play their hearts out for him. Marvelous.

People aren't made this way these days, maestro von Matacic is the last of his generation, the last of the Romantic era.
