Anzac Day and Remembrance Day.

Can You Hear Australia's Heroes Marching? is a national war memorial song and a tribute to the ANZAC spirit of mateship, courage, and sacrifice.

The song is timeless and honours the memory of those who have died in the service and defence of Australia in war.

The marching theme of the song is especially powerful and supports the spirit of ANZAC Day. The song does not glorify war or endorse conflict of any kind. The song simply highlights the sacrifice of many Australians who died in the service and defence of our country in war.

Schools and students frequently ask to use this song in projects and commemorative ceremonies.
Radio stations throughout Australia have broadcast the song leading up to ANZAC Day and Remembrance Day. The song is also requested to be played at funerals (for veterans).

This year, as in the past eight years, the song has been used for commemorative purposes across Australia by schools, churches, choirs, bands, councils, retirement homes and RSL branches. This year we also received requests for the song to be used for commemorative purposes by businesses, for example, a mining company. The song was also used for ANZAC tributes at NRL & AFL matches.

"Mr. Barnes, while visiting Australia last September, I had the opportunity to visit the War Memorial in Canberra. I took numerous pictures there as well of other places I visited while in your country. I've been putting my pictures, along with background musical tracks, up on my website as podcasts. As I worked on the pictures of the War Memorial, I looked for appropriate music to accompany it and found your song. I would like to know if you would give me permission to use 'Can You Hear Australia's
Heroes Marching?' as background to the pictures of the Australian War Memorial? It would be the
perfect music to underscore the pictures."
Gene Bias, Orlando, FL, USA

"I thought the music was a modern reflection on Australia's war dead... As a Vietnam veteran I would have to say that it is a wonderful tribute to all who have fallen." Edmund 'Ted' Harrison

"I am taking a funeral tomorrow of a Vietnam Vet who died last week of cancer. The family would like to use your song... I am asking for permission to use it at the funeral." E-mail from a Reverend

"Congratulations on your very professionally presented song, 'Can You Hear Australia's Heroes Marching?' It is most patriotic, stirring and respectfully thought provoking." Major General Peter Phillips AO MC (Retd) National President of the RSL

"Thanks for your note on your song which I played the other night and got a terrific reaction. Many of the listeners on the 28 stations to which we broadcast want to know if it can be purchased anywhere?" John Kerr (2UE)

The song is patriotic and inspiring.

  • That's a poor, uneducated and asinine comment. If you knew anything about World War 2, you would realize what a large part ANZACs played. They were the first to stop Rommel in the desert, the Japanese expansion at E.Timor and New Guinea, that decimated the Fallshirmjager in Crete. They were also instrumental in Slim's Chindit campaign, tying up whole armies. The whole free world owes the ANZACs, and no I am not an Aussie or a Kiwi, just a Yank who appreciates ANZACs and their sacrifice.

  • They shall grow not old,

As we that are left grow old,

    Age shall not weary them,

    Nor the years condemn.

At the going down of the sun,

    And in the morning

    We will remember them.

    Lest We Forget

  • news of dead diggers goes down like silk, i m loving it

  • @strawberryapple4 Why not? Can't you spare 1 day for all those men who fought for our country and died in foreign lands?

  • @SugarTomAppleRoger Lmao, you need to take reading classes degenerate. I said nothing of what you claimed. Now stop disgracing the ANZACS by saying only the people that won the battles were "heroes". You sicken me.

  • Those heroes who shed their blood and lost their lives, you are now lying in the soil of a friendly country. therefore rest in peace. there is no difference between the johnnies and the mehemets to us where they lie side by side in this country of ours.

you, the mothers who sent their sons from far away countries wipe away your tears, your sons are now lying in our bosoms and are in peace. after having lost their lives on this land they become our sons as well.

  • @aussiecricketnut Why don't you grow up. Maybe you will learn that the rubbish that Rudd and the rest of your Australian leaders tell you is not the complete facts. As a New Zealander I resent the fact that Australians like you say that Anzacs only mean Australians and exclude New Zealand. You can go to hell, that is until you learn some manners.
