07/03/09 Anime Expo 2009

Anime Expo held at the Los Angeles Convention Center. Went on Friday and made it at by around 10 in the morning. Ticket was like 30 bucks. Registration is so awkward the way it is set up you go inside then head back outside then inside. I need a map to explain. It should be that once you're in the building you should show your badge once to get in instead of flashing your badge every time you enter a room. I guess I'm jaded from how Comic Con runs things since it had 40 years of experience over Anime Expo's 17 years of experience.

-Arcade, costs like $1.50 just to play Wangan Midnight
-Exhibit Hall takes only 2 hours to cover.
-Rainbow Rangers meet the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers plus Rita and Zedd.
-Took a mini nap while watching Miike's Zebraman. Awesome suit Zebraman has I must say. If I did cosplay, I'd rock that. Then I'd start drop kicking people.
-Pop Shock Masquerade., had good lady host that I thought tried to keep the ball rolling for the unimpressive panel. Only thing that made it entertaining was Thai Hard Gay.
-Went to the third showing of the first held Maid Cafe at 10:30 to 12:30. They were running late. You pay $25 bucks for dinner and a show which consist of you eating just 1,(no seconds) dinner roll with turkey in it with your usual Thanksgiving condiments that go with it like butter, jam, dijon mustard, and mayo. Then you can wash that down with some watered down lemonade.
The entertainment for the evening was the maids would do a dance number every once in a while. What was suppose to keep us entertained was this gaming system they had. You would play home games like Rock'em Sock'em Robots, Jenga, Hungry Hungry Hippos with the maids. If you beat them you'd win a ticket that you can exchange: A)Prize raffle B)If you earn 2 tickets you get a picture with a maid of your choice. You'd get the first game free, then pay $1 dollar for another game if you choose to continue. That was the kicker, you were not allowed to take snapshots or video record the event inside the cafe since it would defeat the purpose of winning the second prize.
So if my spending math is right, that meal should have cost maybe $5 bucks..... so that would mean that entertainment and service cost $20 bucks. On the plus side we had 2 excellent "Latin" maids servicing us. They were nice and everything. One was super hacks at the games, cost one of the guys on our table to cough up about $15 bucks but he kept losing. That dude seriously had a gambling problem. They should have just handed him a ticket out of pure pity. My friend went up against the other maid we hand since she was on a losing streak. She had like 3 attempts playing Crocodile Dentist were the first tooth she pulled out snapped at her. My friend Charles figure he could take her down at ease at a game Jenga. Boy, was he wrong. The game went on for almost half an hour where it stacked up to around the 30's. Lost. Filmed a couple seconds of it until the maid politely told me shut my camera off. Anyways the Jenga made my night since it was pretty intense.

Overall, I'd recommend just going there not buy a ticket for a pass and chill at the hallways just to take pics for cosplay. Other option if you do buy the ticket is taking advantage on watching movies they are showing. They were showing stuff like Chocalate, The Good, The Bad, and The Weird, Train Man, and all the Death Note movies.
