A one-stop career center just opened in Germantown, and it is already seeing a lot of customers. The Upcounty facility on Middlebrook Road fills an important need during these difficult economic times. Those looking for work will find new listings to pursue, and computers are also available for job seekers.

The existing one-stop career center in Wheaton, coupled with other county programs, served 13 thousand people with job training and employment help in this fiscal year alone.

Montgomery County Police have been busy tracking a series of daytime burglaries in Potomac. Captain Paul Starks joins us now, with the Police Report.
SOT {Capt. Paul Starks/Montgomery County Police saved as Potomac Burglaries}
Our detectives are investigating eight daytime burglaries. They happened in several different neighborhoods, but the pattern seems the same. The robberies have occurred between 8-30 and 2-30, during the middle of the day. In each case, force was used for the criminal to gain access to the home. What were finding is that in each burglary, expensive jewelry was taken sometimes cash was also stolen. In three instances, witnesses tell us a white male suspect in his 30s or 40s was seen leaving the area by car. They can tell us only that he has short brown hair.

So, we want to remind everyone to lock their doors and windows including garage doors. If you are going to be away for an extended period of time, you might want to alert your neighbors so they can keep an eye on things while youre gone. You might also want to use timers on your lights and appliances to give the appearance that someone is home.

If you see anything suspicious, we are always glad to hear from you on our non-emergency line so we can check it out. That number is 301-279-8000. Alisa we would rather be called and find out everyone is okay than miss the opportunity to catch a criminal.

Captain Paul Starks thank you and thanks also to the officers who will be working throughout the holiday to keep the rest of us safe.

VO

The Motor Squad of the County Police Department did spend some time, spreading good cheer and raising money for the Childrens Inn at the National Institutes of Health. Santa Claus hopped a chopper to travel with 20 officers around the County. They stopped at each of the countys six district headquarters. The group also paid a mid-day visit to the Countys Executive Office before ending the day at NIH, with their gifts for the children in hand. Thanks for watching county report. Im Alisa Parenti.
