Winter, my 7 1/2 month old Weimaraner chases a squirrel after branch breaks and it falls from tree. Dusty, my Australian Shepherd tries to get in on the action. Look at Winter's face after I make her drop the squirrel...she doesn't understand why she can't have it! The squirrel wasn't harmed and escapes back to the tree.

my weim is getting on in years, but even in her prime she never caught anything - and believeyoume she tried! Wait, I take that back, she's always been good at catching flies and other flying bugs, and she still is. Too bad she never liked crawling bugs like nasty centipedes though - that would have made my life better in my last apartment. :)
My dog just did the same thing today. Squirrel made the same noises - I caught my dog and the squirrel was lying on its back making the noises. I left the scene - but seeing that your squirrel eventually got up and left gives me hope that ours today eventually did the same. Maybe just a state of initial shock...
