  • I am actually buying one tomorrow and was searching for info. The one I am buying has 2 x Intel Xeon 3.2Ghz HT, 12GB of RAM and 5X36GB HHD. Why does it take so long to boot into Ubuntu?. Should be faster. I will be running 64-bit Ubuntu on my Dell 2650.

  • @JasonDolan The bios is the longest part (varies with bios version) but the ubuntu boot isn't really noticeable. I have one with windows server 03 and it takes longer to boot. These really are great machines though!

  • @CIAAGENT100 Thanks for explaining! I have mine now and it's the same as yours, Bios take a while, revision A18.

  • @JasonDolan Awesome! Hope you enjoy it!

  • I got the same server as you I love PE2650

  • @basmagic Haha yeah they are great. I bought 9 more of them a week ago

  • @JasonDolan this might be a bit late, but this machine is 32 bit only, the dell servers that are 64 bit capable have an 8 as the second digit in the model number

  • :O

    It's iamalion.

  • @MrAffordablerates you wouldnt use a server as a personal computer. you could get more performance out of a standard athlon II x4 , phenom II x4 or intel quad with L3 cache and hyperthreading and it would be better

  • @CIAAGENT100

how much would sell me one for ???...i need one to use as personal cpu......heard they are super fast...thanks

  • @CIAAGENT100 Ahh thanks for explaining! :) Will this machine be able to run Windows server 2003 64-bit version? I have 12GB of RAM in the dell 2650 and 2 x Intel Xeon 3.2Ghz HT CPUs. I am a bit worred as you know 32-bit OS can only use 3GB of RAM and I have 12GB. So I am praying it can run 64-bit OS to to make use of the RAM. Also it has 5x 36GB HDD's, can I install separate OS in each? or do I make them RAID5 and use all. Thanks for any help.

  • @lucky60629 wow mate. . . 11 months to late. . . but thx
