TODAY'S YOUNG PEOPLE ARE THE AIDS GENERATION

Many of the 80's and 90's babies contracted the HIV/AIDS virus during birth.

Very little was known about the HIV/AIDS virus back then, treatment was limited,  many of the mothers and fathers of these 80's and 90's babies are no longer with us, their children put into foster care, some raised by the grandparents and older siblings. In 2010, these 80's and 90's babies are now in their teens and twenties.

Inadequate health education and prevention, due to lack of accessible information and services has cause the rise of HIV/AIDS cases among young people under 25 years old globally.

Karungari (Karusa) Kiragu, Ph.D. wrote in the Population Information Program Report, "Youth and HIV/AIDS: Can We Avoid Catastrophe?", Today's young people are the AIDS generation. They have never known a world without HIV. Millions already have died. Yet the HIV/AIDS epidemic among youth remains largely invisible to adults and to young people themselves. Stopping HIV/AIDS requires comprehensive strategies that focus on youth.

  • Yes, it is a shame Robert, and even embarrassing when you think of all the source that are out there, 1,000 upon 1,000 of places to get tested at the hospital, neighborhood clinics, outreach HIV mobile testing units in the street, place to go and that teach HIV prevention and education.

Yet, young people under 25 HIV/AIDS infections have reached over 10 million global.
