Press Conference on Death of Joaquin Rivera, Phila. PA 12/6/09

On November 28, 2009, longtime musician, community activist, and bi-lingual high school counselor Joaquin Rivera checked into the Aria-Frankford Hospital E.R. complaining of pain in his chest and arm. He was told to have a seat and wait, and sadly passed away 11 minutes later. In the meantime three individuals also in the E.R. proceeded to rob the deceased Joaquin Rivera, and a witness then got the attention of hospital staff. He was eventually pronounced dead by hospital staff a full 1 HOUR AND 19 MINUTES after checking into the E.R.

Joaquin Rivera was a founding member of the National Congress for Puerto Rican Rights and was active in the organization right up until his passing.

As a musician and Vocal Music Teacher in the School District of Philadelphia, I was quite angered that such a talented educator, human rights' activist and incredible musician was left to die in such a terrible way. This should not have happened and it is good that much more attention is being given to patients who need immediate attention first. My over thirty years in teaching make me fully understand the impact he made on children, and that his death was preventable. My condolences.

I'm so sorry for his loss. And I do the men that robbed him were caught too. Instead of robbing him they should have called for help.

yuna&titus75 The man was a pilar for the hispanic community and the city of philadelphia let him down when he went into Aria frankford hospital emergency room where doctors take the oath to save lives where were these so called professionals when he came in complaining of chest pains and numbness in his arm hello red flag that a warning sign of a heart attack they selfishly, negectly let Mr. Juaquin Rivera die,the hospital should be held responsible.
