if you feed the grasshopper, you teach him that it is ok to slack off because someone will always cover for you. terrible idea.

Oh, how wonderful that these young ones learn this little story. My father told it to us kids all the time, but at the end he wouold alwas ask: "What is the right thing to do? Push the grashopper out the door into the cold?..... or give him what he needs so he willnot starve or freeze?" If I said, "Feed the grasshopper", then my dad would ask, "Why?" ....now I realize that he was tellilng me that I could be an ant or I could risk having enough when winter arrived!
