The Southern Christian Leadership Conference organized a march to the state capitol in Jackson, Mississippi, in June of 2009. With an emphasis on poverty in Mississippi and elsewhere, the SCLC hopes to pick up where MLK left off in 1968 as he prepared to shine a spotlight on economic disparity -- regardless of race -- as an ongoing civil rights issue in America.
